Klarus really wowed us with this pocket flashlight. It’s compact and easy to carry with its two-way clip and that 1000 lumens is really impressive for such a small light. We have found this light to be easy to carry in our pockets and use when we need them. Yeah, yeah, we carry flashlights often in our line of business. We also like getting to know each flashlight that comes in and getting to know the XT1A has been truly fun.

Features of the Klarus XT1A Everyday Carry Flashlight

This is a robust LED flashlight that is versatile, practical, and enjoyable to use. The XT1A has many features that users will love. As we mentioned, this is a very compact flashlight, less than four and a half inches in length. It’s very lightweight and once you have it clipped to your pocket, it’s easy to forget about until you need it. The body is made from aerospace aluminum alloy with a hard anodized finish so it’s going to be durable. The flashlight is equipped with a CREE XP-L HD V6 LED and has a smooth deep reflector so you’ll see a very defined hotspot with a good spill to it.

Multiple Outputs

Operating the XT1A is fairly simple with its dual tactical tail switches. You have the main round rubber switch and the secondary paddle switch. The difference in shape and texture make it easy to feel out in the dark and know immediately which switch your finger is on. The XT1A features five total outputs that include three brightness levels, a strobe mode, and an SOS mode. The three brightness levels are: high at 1000 lumens, medium at 80 lumens, and low at 5 lumens. So you have some range and options when it comes to brightness levels.

It’s excellent that the XT1A comes with both a strobe and an SOS. Both are flashing modes that are there for emergency. You can use the strobe mode to disorient an attacker. We’ve even heard of using the strobe mode on feral animals. The SOS mode is a great way to call attention to yourself if you require help.

Programmable Settings

If you’ve gotten yourself a more recent Klarus XT series flashlight like the XT11GT, then you know about the programmable settings that Klarus implements. The XT1A features two programmable settings: the Tactical Setting and the Outdoor Setting. In the Tactical Setting you have a momentary-on and a One-Touch Turbo with the main switch. The secondary switch activates a strobe mode when pressed down. While the flashlight is on, the secondary switch will cycle through the brightness levels. This setting is great for anyone who wants that self-defense option with the One-Touch Strobe. It’s great for law enforcement, security, and more.

The Outdoor Setting gives you access to that momentary on and One-Touch Turbo with the main switch, just like the Tactical Setting. The difference is in the secondary switch which turns onto the low mode when pressed down in the Outdoor Setting. This is excellent for any outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, or even just general use. You can easily switch between the settings whenever you need to. The programmable settings make the XT1A very versatile.

USB Rechargeable Battery

The XT1A comes with a Klarus 14500 lithium ion battery that is USB rechargeable. There is a micro USB port located directly on the battery so that you can charge the battery easily with any standard micro USB cable. So even though the XT1A is not a rechargeable flashlight, it's great that the 14500 battery is easily rechargeable without having to purchase a separate battery charger. The XT1A is also compatible with an AA battery. So this way if you need to use your flashlight, but your 14500 battery died and you don't have any way to charge it, you can put a standard AA battery into the XT1A and use that. Thankfully, AA batteries are very common and can often be found lying around the house or hanging out in a random drawer.

The XT1A also features a battery level indicator that you can refer to at anytime to know what the charge of the battery is. If you see a green indicator that means your battery has over 70% of its charge, if you see orange it means your battery has 30 to 70% of its charge, if you see red it means that your battery has 10 to 30% of its charge, and if you see a flashing red it means it has less than 10% of its charge. If you see a flashing red we highly recommend you charge or change your battery.

For safety, the XT1A also features a low battery capacity protection, reverse polarity protection, and a High Temperature Protection System that monitors the internal temperature of the flashlight and adjusts the output accordingly so your flashlight does not overheat. The XT1A gives you everything you'd want an everyday carry flashlight and much much more.

We are incredibly impressed with this everyday carry flashlight. It's amazing to see this little pocket flashlight deliver 1000 lumens of pure power.
