Back-to-School LED Flashlights
Time for school to be back in session! As we say goodbye to the relaxing summer months and prepare ourselves or our children for school, it’s important to be sure they have all the right things from books to pens. When it comes to sending our kids back to college or heading back to college ourselves, a flashlight becomes an essential tool. If your kid is in a dorm room with one or more roommates then having a small penlight can be really useful for late night studying without disturbing anyone else’s sleep. Not to mention, any late night walks on or around campus where a flashlight becomes invaluable.
Klarus P20
This penlight is an excellent flashlight for any student. Not only is it compact, just a bit bigger than a pen, but it’s quite practical. Equipped with a Nichia High CRI 219C LED, the P20 features a softer, more natural light that isn’t so harsh on eyes. It features three brightness levels ranging from 4 lumens to 230 lumens. So whether your kid needs to read in the dark or illuminate their path, the P20 can deliver. It runs on two AAA batteries which are inexpensive and very easy to come by. Nitecore Tube
This is another great flashlight for a college student. This flashlight is meant to go on a keyring making it generally more accessible and less likely to lose. The great thing about the Tube is that it has some high-end features for a very reasonable cost, less than $10! It features two brightness levels - high which is 45 lumens, and low which is 1 lumen. 45 lumens may not seem like a lot, but it will definitely illuminate the path in front of you! If you’re still skeptical I suggest watching a review over the Tube. Another awesome feature is that it’s USB rechargeable so you don’t need to worry about replacing batteries. Fenix UC02
The UC02 is a compact and powerful keychain flashlight made by Fenix. It’s small enough that it fits easily on a keyring without adding too much bulk. The downside with any keychain flashlight is that they’re easy to lose, especially if you don’t use a keyring. So if your kid doesn’t use a keyring then that’s something to consider. The UC02 features two brightness levels: high which is 130 lumens and low which is 10 lumens. It’s also USB rechargeable and has a battery power indicator which makes it convenient. The UC02 is also incredibly durable, impact-resistant, and waterproof up to IPX8 standards. Not to mention, it comes in some fun colors! Find out more about the Fenix UC02 here!
Klarus Mi7
The last flashlight we’ll be talking about is the awesome Klarus Mi7! This flashlight is compact, though not small enough to be on a keyring. It does, however, come with a pocket clip for easy carrying. If you don’t like the pocket clip, you can attach the Mi7 to a carabiner and hook it onto your bag or backpack. You can equip this flashlight with one AA or 14500 lithium-ion battery. With a AA battery it delivers up to 330 lumens whereas with a 14500 battery it delivers up to 700 lumens. Most likely, a college student doesn’t need 700 lumens and AA batteries are less expensive and easier to come by so that’s something to consider. It features three brightness levels and two specialty modes: a strobe and an SOS mode. If you prefer your kid has a self-defense tool then definitely look for a flashlight that has a strobe mode. This can easily disorient an attacker. The Mi7 also comes in a myriad of colors to choose from! See more on the Klarus Mi7 here.
Depending on what kind of tool you’d like your kid to have, there are tons of flashlights to consider. The four we talked about here are just a few examples. You can check out our other everyday carry flashlights to see more options here!
