Flashlight Review - Klarus XT2C
With the flashlight market being flooded with so many new and advanced flashlights, it can be tough to find that one perfect tactical flashlight with no bells and whistles. Just a straightforward flashlight that is powerful and that you can rely on every day or every time you need it. This is where I’d point you to Klarus because while Klarus is creating more advanced flashlights that are packed with features, they also have high-quality flashlights with a simple interface that anyone can pick up and learn. So today we’ll be reviewing the Klarus XT2C LED flashlight. This is a compact, sleek looking flashlight that feels incredibly light and comfortable in your hands.
The XT2C has a powerful CREE XP-L HI V3 LED. This flashlight delivers 1100 lumens which is amazing from this compact light. It has a beam distance of 243 meters so it’s definitely not the strongest thrower, but you’ll definitely be able to see really far away. The LED itself has a really nice cool white tint to it so you don’t see that ugly blue that keeps popping up among LED flashlights. In this comprehensive flashlight review we’ll look at what the XT2C comes with, different features of the XT2C, the interface on the XT2C, and what category and what to use the XT2C for.
Features of the Klarus XT2C LED Flashlight
So, let’s talk about what the Klarus XT2C comes with. In the package you’ll find the XT2C flashlight, of course, a Klarus 18650 2600 mAh lithium-ion battery that will be inside the flashlight, a holster, a lanyard, a pocket clip, a split ring, and a couple of spare o-rings. Part of what you pay for with a high-quality flashlight is the included accessories so I always like to check to make sure it comes with some decent goodies. The XT2C comes with some awesome accessories and I particularly like that it comes with the 18650 battery. There are plenty of LED flashlights that use lithium-ion batteries but don’t include them with the flashlight so it’s a wonderful bonus when you find a flashlight that does include the battery.
Looking at the Klarus XT2C, you can see that it has a black matte body with a textured design that allows you to grip the flashlight better. It’s 135mm in length which is a little over 5 inches. You can use the pocket clip for easy carrying or just toss it in your EDC bag and you’re good to go. The body is made from aircraft grade aluminum with is a strong, durable, lightweight, and heat-resistant metal. LEDs can heat up really quickly and it’s important that the material of the flashlight withstand that heat. High-quality flashlights will usually have features setup to keep the flashlight’s electronics, battery, and LED protected from that heat. The XT2C has those grooves at the head of the flashlight where the LED is that help to dissipate the heat preventing any damage to the flashlight’s components.
Klarus became popular very quickly with their XT series flashlights. These flashlights were popular in part because of their amazing user interface and dual tactical tail switches. The Klarus XT2C definitely has that simple user interface with the dual tail switches. You have the main switch and the secondary switch that’s similar to a paddle. With how different the switches feel, you can access the right switch in an instant no matter how dark it is. Especially with tactical flashlights, you don’t want to be fumbling around in the dark trying to turn it on.
The main switch turns ON and OFF the XT2C and has a momentary-on function which means that you can activate the turbo mode without pressing the switch down all the way. This is a necessary feature in any tactical flashlight. Even that half second that it takes to press the switch on can be essential so the immediate access to the turbo mode is excellent. Once the flashlight is ON you use the secondary switch or paddle to access the three different brightness modes. The XT2C features a flashing strobe mode for self-defense. You can access this mode immediately whether the flashlight is ON or OFF by holding down the the secondary switch. This is another reason the Klarus XT2C is an excellent flashlight. The switches feel so different you won’t accidentally activate the strobe mode when you’re trying to turn on the flashlight. At the same time, that strobe mode is constantly at your fingertips ready to work for you when you need it the most.
I mentioned that the Klarus XT2C has three brightness levels allowing this flashlight to be used in a variety of different settings and situations. There is the turbo mode that is 1100 lumens, the medium mode that is 300 lumens, and the low mode which is 10 lumens. You won’t always need the turbo mode and there are many situations where it’s actually better to use a lower mode. For example, if you’re out camping and you’re in your tent at night, you don’t want to use 1100 lumens to read a map or your book. You want 10 lumens because this allows you to see without blinding yourself in close quarters.
When you’re shelling out quite a bit of money for a high-end flashlight, you want to be sure it lasts. Fortunately for you, Klarus makes sure to deliver the best. The Klarus XT2C has dual springs in both the tail and the head of the flashlight to protect the battery making this flashlight impact resistant up to 1.5 meters! It’s also water resistant up to IPX8 standards which means you can drop it in 2 meters of water, leave it there for 30 minutes and the XT2C will still work just fine. You can actually see it in Gear Nut’s YouTube flashlight review of the XT2C below. He puts the XT2C in a 5 gallon bucket of water and the flashlight works with no issues!
All in all, the Klarus XT2C is a great versatile flashlight. You can easily use it for outdoor activities. Simply clip it to your pocket with the pocket clip, attach the lanyard to your belt, or toss the flashlight in your camping gear. For more professional work such as engineering or plumbing where you need to shine a light in darker places, the XT2C will come in handy here thanks to the dual tail switch and its compact design. Finally, the XT2C is excellent just to have around the house. Personally, it’s my go-to light around the house when I’m doing any house work that requires light. I can think of more and more situations where this light will shine (pun intended), but I think you get the idea. To check out the Klarus XT2C visit here!
