May's Flashlight Game with the Klarus FL1A

I’m actually really excited to talk about this game because this is a game I played as a kid. It’s called Firefly and it’s a fun game whether you’re an adult or a kid. Of course, it has to take place outside at night so it’s more fun as a camping game or if you have a large backyard. We played it in our neighborhood as kids, but I don’t know how comfortable parents are with their kids running around the neighborhood at night anymore.

So here’s how you play. One person takes the flashlight, this person is the firefly, and hides while the other players count to 30. When the search is on, the firefly will flash their flashlight once and try to move around so as not to get caught. The players searching for the firefly will keep an eye out for that flash and try to follow it. The firefly continually flashes the light every once in a while. Whoever catches the firefly first can be the next firefly and the gme continues!

I chose the Klarus FL1A for multiple reasons. First of all, it is a tiny little flashlight. It’s only a little over 3 and a half inches so it’s easy to carry around for the firefly. It also runs on a single AA battery so you don’t have to worry about finding any specific Lithium or Lithium-Ion battery for it. The FL1A has a maximum output of 65 lumens which can make Firefly more challenging. It’s bright enough that you can definitely see it, but not so bright that it immediately gives the firefly away. Also, there’s a special diffuser on the FL1A that disperses the light so the firefly doesn’t have to worry about accidentally shining a spotlight in another player’s eyes. Finally we’re onto my favorite feature: the different colored LEDs. As the firefly, you can choose what color your light will be. The FL1A has three different colors: Red, Green, and UV (blue).

So have a good time with this new flashlight game!
