Prepare for Storm Season: Ditch the Wicks

Spring is here and with spring comes some nasty storms! It’s time to make certain that your shelter is prepared in case the weather turns nasty quickly whether it’s a storm shelter, bathroom, or closet. There are certain important things that are necessary to have nearby such as a radio or TV, pillows, and a long-lasting flashlight in case the power goes out. Here are some flashlights that will come in handy whenever a storm strikes!

The Fenix CL25R

Fenix CL25R 350 Lumens

This lantern is compact and easy to store right in your storm shelter at approximately 4 inches in length. The Fenix CL25R has a maximum output of 350 lumens and can illuminate up to 25 meters in diameter so it will keep your shelter bright! Equipped with a rechargeable 18650 Lithium-Ion battery, the CL25R is rechargeable which makes it incredibly convenient. No looking around for batteries at the last minute. On its lowest output level, the Fenix CL25R can last up to 600 hours! So there’s no need to worry about the battery power running low! Unless, of course, you forgot to charge it and you just happened to use 599 hours of the runtime. Thankfully, you can just plug it into a standard Micro USB charger and you’ll be set in no time. For safety, the CL25R has an integrative protective charging circuit that prevents overheating, over-discharging, and overcharging. It also has reverse polarity protection in case the batteries are loaded improperly.

Another lantern that would be incredibly useful during storm season is the Fenix CL20. It’s about 3 inches in length and has a maximum lumen output of 165 lumens. It can be equipped with either two AA batteries (Alkaline or Ni-MH) or one CR123 battery. The truly spectacular aspect of the CL20 is that it has built-in magnets and a hanging loop so you can affix it to a metal surface or hang it from a hook or nail. For safety, the Fenix CL20 has reverse polarity protection in case the batteries are loaded improperly. It is also waterproof up to IPX6 standards so it can handle some rain and heavy splashes.

The Klarus RS20

Klarus RS20 LED Flashlight

The Klarus RS20 is a three-in-one flashlight with a maximum output of 1050 lumens. As you can see in the picture, it has LEDs on the side of the body allowing the flashlight to be used as a lantern. So you can use it as a spotlight or as an area light depending on your needs. The RS20 features a built-in memory function that will remember the last brightness setting you used. By selecting the lowest brightness mode, you can help conserve the battery. It comes equipped with a custom 18650 battery. There is an integrated magnetic charging port that can self-locate the charging cable (also included with this flashlight). With this magnetic connection, the Klarus RS20 charges efficiently and the cord can be removed quickly and safely.
