The Ultimate Outdoor Flashlight - Klarus ST10
Klarus has really been wowing us lately with their new tactical flashlights and their new everyday carry flashlights like the XT2CR or the Mi1C. They've really been stepping up their game and impressing users with their powerful flashlights by packing all the features they can into their flashlights. Recently however they've come out with a new flashlights and it is the ultimate outdoor flashlights in our opinion. Say hello to the Klarus ST10. This compact lightweight flashlight will become any outdoor enthusiast’s best friend and you'll see why soon. So far Klarus has several ST series flashlights like the ST12 and ST15. They are excellent for outdoor purposes and for professional work with their simple user interfaces, really nice beam pattern, and just general awesomeness.
Features of the Klarus ST10
So let's talk a little bit more about the ST10 and what it has to offer. I'll start with everyone's favorite topic: power. The ST10 delivers 1100 lumens which is an excellent amount of light for outdoor activities. It's equipped with a CREE XM-L2 U2 LED and has a maximum beam distance of 115 meters. Thanks to the professional-grade optical lens the ST10 has a soft even flood light allowing you to easily see your surroundings without dazzling your eyes. Some of the flashlights out there are incredibly powerful but it can almost be too much. While these flashlights are impressive, when you're in the outdoors they can be very overwhelming for your eyes. Your eyes strain trying to adjust to the light and then trying to adjust to the darkness when you turn the flashlight off again. So it's great that the ST10 has a softer floodlight and is a little less overwhelming on your eyes. Your eyes will better be able to adjust when the flashlight turns on and off.
User Interface on the Ultimate Outdoor Flashlight
The ST10 has a side switch design making it very simple to operate the flashlight with a single hand. It has a total of 6 outputs - it has four brightness levels, a strobe mode and an SOS mode. You can easily access the low brightness level with the One Touch Low function and you can easily access the strobe mode as long as the flashlight is not in the lockout mode. This brings us to our next feature which is the lockout function. The ST10 does have a lockout function so that you do not accidentally turn on your flashlight in your pocket or in your bag. The ST10 also has a built-in memory function. This is an excellent function to have on any flashlights but particularly an outdoor flashlight. When you are in the outdoors you want to conserve your battery as much as possible and having that built in memory function is excellent for that reason and many others. For example, if you're camping and you're in your tent wanting to look for some items in a bag or wanting to read a map, turning on the ST10 to that turbo mode of 1100 lumens is going to be very bright. It can possibly temporarily blind you and any person who is also in the tent because that light is so overwhelming. So by using that built in memory mode it allows for more versatility, more convenience, and an all-around better outdoor flashlight. And you can access all of these features using that single side switch. So it's a very simple user interface and it won't take long before it becomes second nature to you.
Durable Outdoor Flashlight Klarus ST10
It's incredibly important in any outdoor flashlight that it is durable, rugged, and able to withstand Nature's elements. The ST10 fits that and more. First of all, it is made with Aerospace aluminum grade alloy and has a hard anodized finish. The aluminum alloy is incredibly durable, heat resistant, and very lightweight. This is exactly the kind of material you should expect in any outdoor flashlights. Looking at the body of the flashlight you can see that near the head there are heat dissipation grooves which help keep the flashlight cool so that it can operate at its best. Along the body you’ll also notice the knurling design. This texture prevents the flashlights from slipping in your hands making it easier to operate in all conditions. The ST10 has ITS temperature control and what this does is monitor the internal temperature of the flashlight and adjust the output according to that temperature. This system ensures that your flashlight is performing at its best while not overheating. If a flashlight were to overheat it could potentially burn out the LED that is inside, hurt the internal components of the flashlight, or, worse, hurt you. So it's great that the ST10 has that ITS temperature control.
The ST10 also has front and rear internal springs that protect the battery. The ST10 does come with the Klarus 18650 battery with a 2600 mAh capacity. While lithium ion batteries are very powerful and make excellent energy sources they can also be quite dangerous. You don't want a battery that is leaking or damaged. So those internal springs in the ST10 help protect your battery from any impact that it may make. The ST10 is impact-resistant up to 1 meter so you can be sure that the battery is going to be protected from any accidental drops. Along with that the ST10 is also waterproof up to IPX8 standards. So you don't have to worry if you are out camping and a sudden horrible rain storm sweeps in. Your flashlight will have your back.
Rechargeable Outdoor Flashlight
As I mentioned before, the ST10 does come with an 18650 battery and you are welcome to equip it with any 18650 battery you may have, but it also can be equipped with two CR123 batteries. It's excellent that the ST10 allows you to use different kinds of batteries so you can decide which batteries you prefer using. The ST10 is also USB rechargeable so you can easily recharge the ST10 while you're driving around doing errands or working on your computer. Having a USB rechargeable flashlight or any rechargeable flashlight can really end up saving you some money in the end. You can use or go through less batteries and you also won't need to buy a battery charger.
The side switch on the ST10 doubles as a charging indicator and a battery capacity indicator. When you're plugging the flashlight in to charge you will see one of three things. You will see a green glow if the flashlight is completely charged, you will see a red glow if the flashlight is currently charging, or you will see an orange glow if the flashlight is unable to charge for one reason or another. With the battery capacity indicator you will see essentially the same colors. The indicator will glow green when the battery is over 70% charged, it will glow orange when it’s 30 to 70% charged, it will glow red when it is 10 to 30% charged, and it will flash red when it’s under 10% charged meaning it’s time to charge your flashlight or change out the batteries.
